Working With Me

Initial Consultation

I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel overwhelming and daunting, which is why I offer a free up to 15-minute telephone conversation. This gives us an opportunity to determine if we are a good fit and if we can work together towards your goals. It's a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and share what brings you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. This conversation helps us establish a foundation for our therapeutic journey and ensures that we are a good fit to work together.

How I work

My approach to counselling is integrative, which means I have the flexibility to draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches that best suit your unique needs and goals. As a trauma-informed practitioner I will provide psychoeducation as it is helpful for clients to understand why they feel the way they do, and stabilisation techniques to develop a sense of safety. I will not be directive, as the nature of trauma is the loss of power and control, and I believe you the client need to feel in control of your recovery. By tailoring our sessions to your specific requirements, we can navigate your therapeutic journey in a way that resonates with you. Additionally, I adopt a relational approach, recognising the significance of establishing a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship. Through empathy and compassion, I aim to create a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions openly. This approach sets the foundation for making meaningful progress, helping you achieve your goals and unlock your full potential.

Some of the approaches I draw upon are:

TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS

Transactional Analysis focuses on understanding and improving interpersonal relationships. It explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns impact present interactions, with a goal of fostering effective communication and personal growth.

PSYCHODYNAMICS

Psychodynamics delves into the unconscious mind and the influence of early life experiences on current behaviour and emotions. It seeks to bring awareness to unresolved conflicts and unconscious processes, aiming for insight, healing, and personal transformation.

GESTALT

Gestalt therapy emphasises the present moment and focuses on the integration of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It encourages self-awareness and helps individuals explore unfinished business or unresolved issues, fostering personal growth and increased self-acceptance.

EXISTENTIAL

Existential therapy looks to explore emotional or psychological difficulties from a philosophical perspective. It focuses on the human condition and the anxieties that are part of life. This approach focuses on the present, and at its core is the thought that we have the capability and responsibility for making life choices and creating our own successes.

FOCUSING

Focusing is a client-centred approach that encourages individuals to attune to their bodily sensations and inner wisdom. By accessing and listening to the body's felt sense, it helps facilitate emotional healing, personal growth, and decision-making.

CBT (COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY)

CBT explores the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It aims to identify and challenge negative or unhelpful thought patterns, replacing them with healthier and more adaptive ones. CBT is goal-oriented and often involves practical strategies and exercises.

SOMATIC

Somatic therapy recognises the mind-body connection and works with the body's sensations and experiences to promote healing and well-being. It focuses on releasing stored tension, trauma, or stress, facilitating self-regulation and increased self-awareness.

SOLUTION FOCUSED

Solution Focused therapy is future-oriented and goal-directed. It emphasises identifying and building on strengths, resources, and solutions to create positive change. This approach encourages individuals to envision their desired future and collaboratively work towards achieving their goals.

Online Counselling

Online counselling offers a convenient and flexible way to access the support you need. With online sessions, you have the freedom to choose a time that suits your schedule and fits seamlessly into your life. Whether you're at home, in the office, or travelling, you can connect with your counsellor from a place where you feel comfortable and at ease. This accessibility allows you to receive the support and guidance you seek without the constraints of physical location.

Telephone Counselling

Telephone counselling provides a convenient and accessible avenue for accessing the support you need. If the idea of face-to-face counselling feels stressful or uncomfortable, telephone counselling offers a solution. By opting for telephone sessions, you can receive support from the comfort of your own familiar surroundings without the added stress of visiting an unfamiliar place. The absence of direct eye contact during telephone sessions can alleviate any intensity or discomfort, allowing you to focus solely on expressing your thoughts and emotions openly.
